This story first appeared in the Summer 2013 edition of “The Bagel.”
Sam and his family have been going to Brent’s Deli since 1985, when he was four years old.
“My mom used to crave an all-beef hotdog with some of Brent’s Deli’s outstanding chili,” Sam recalls. “So she had to order a hotdog and a side of chili.”
During one of their visits to our Northridge location, Carol (Sam’s mom) casually mentioned this to Carie because the two had become friendly — as is the case with many of our regulars.
“About a week or two later, we noticed there was now a Chili Dog on the menu,” Sam says. “My mom was very happy — she made a point to show every visitor that came with us to Brent’s Deli.”
In 2006, Carol passed away, but Sam and his family still continue her tradition.
“To this day, I look at the menu — which I don’t need to do because I always know what I want,” Sam says. “And I remember my mother and smile!”
